At HEALTH SCAN IMAGING, the planning for our premier facility at the Cornerstone Professional Center in Palm Desert actually spanned three years.  In fact, all-important decisions regarding equipment selection were delayed 12 months until the next-generation 32 slice-per-second CT scanner and the new high field strength ultra short-bore 1.5T Open MRI became available late in 2002.    By special arrangement with the research and development division of Philips Medical Systems,   HEALTH SCAN IMAGING became the first West Coast medical center to site both of these powerful new diagnostic  tools in the same facility.   Was it worth the wait?   You can bet your life on it!

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?

Superior Technology.    First and foremost, the detection sensitivity of our next-generation 32 slice-per-second CT and ultra short-bore highfield MRI scanners easily eclipse the capabilities of older multislice CT and closed MRI units.  For instance, our 32 slice-per-second CT scanner is 15 -12 times faster than all prior quad multislice CT scanners that have been installed at health screening centers in the desert prior to late 2002.  At HEALTH SCAN IMAGING, the advantage for patients is crystal sharp pictures without the image blurring, stair-stepping and other problems that limit the detection sensitivity and diagnostic applications of older model CT scanners.

Our greatly accelerated CT scan speed and thin slices mean much more than just shorter scan times and pretty pictures.  These important advantages, combined with cardio-synchronous image acquisition, enable us to “freeze” heart peristalsis and bowel motion, obtain super-thin sub-millimeter slices, and gather literally hundreds of images, all in one short breath hold!  The entire range of anatomy that is scanned - including as much as your entire body - is represented by a huge database of all the acquired digital images. The entire volume or block of images can then be manipulated instantaneously by any of our powerful workstations, using a variety of display algorithms.  Once that data is gathered, an entire palette of display options, including 2D or 3D images, organ segmentation's, “translucent” see-through views, “peel-aways” and virtual fly-throughs is only a click away!   

Our super-fast 70 millisecond scan speed and submillimeter slice thickness capabilities are powerful and versatile instrument parameters that can also be harnessed to further enhance the sharpness of individual images, providing unprecedented clarity of anatomical details, exposing the presence of even tiny tumors,  as small as 2 mm.

 

Expert Professional Service.    At HEALTH SCAN IMAGING, all patient examinations are supervised and interpreted by expert fellowship-trained CT and MRI specialty radiologists.  Educational resources and personalized consultations are provided to each patient in order to ensure a clear understanding of scan results and to further amplify your benefit.  Should you become a self-referred patient, upon your request, we will also communicate results to the physician of your choice.  If a specialist is needed, we can also make a referral for you, from our panel of experts.

 

WHY ARE WE DIFFERENT?

Our cutting-edge technology has enabled us to leap-frog well beyond the diagnostic capabilities of CT and MRI scanners installed prior to late 2002.  We decided to wait for this new technology because, quite simply, we wanted to make sure that we would perform the most sensitive disease-detecting imaging tests available anywhere.  When it comes to health screening, these are especially important advantages to you, the patient.  Remember, we are looking for tiny cancers (the size of a pea or smaller) and early signs of cardiovascular disease that can occur years before symptoms develop.  This time interval is referred to by doctors as the detectable pre-clinical phase of disease (DPCP).
