INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
HEALTH SCAN IMAGING is equipped with a wide array of sophisticated and
highly integrated information technology devices. While visiting our facility, you will probably
notice little more than a comfortable ambiance
and our soothing tropical decor.
This is because most of our hardware and
networking devices are thoughtfully concealed
around the perimeter support areas or in our climate-controlled
computer room. These space-age devices have been
selected in order to expedite and optimize information
transfer. Ultimately,
you, the patient and your physicians,
are of course the beneficiaries of the
work flow efficiency enabled by the following
devices:

PICTURE ARCHIVAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (PACS)
Our multi-component, modular computer system designed
for medical image management and presentation
is made by DR Systems, a leader in the PACS industry.
This robust system employs proprietary
software and innovative hardware integration to
facilitate input, display, archival, transmittal
and printing of medical images, while managing
associated demographic,
scheduling and reporting information, including
digital audio. A set of large format high resolution display
screens are used in our consultation and resource
centers to share key images and diagnostic content
with patients and reporting physicians.

WORK STATION DISPLAY
HEALTH SCAN IMAGING utilizes several proprietary workstation display systems,
including AccuImage, Philips and Viatronix, repersenting
the industry's most advanced visualization workstation.
These devices provide lightening-quick image processing,
analysis, manipulation, display, filming, storage,
and retrieval of images from all of our imaging
modalities. Functions such as automated cardiac calcification
scoring software, volume rendering virtual endoscopy,
functional imaging, shaded surface display, and
maximum intensity projection tools provide a fascinating
menu of image presentation options and information
transfer capabilities.
For instance, virtual endoscopy is a real-time software
tool that enables virtual colonoscopy, bronchoscopy,
angioscopy and much more.
The result is as if you are taking a “fantastic
voyage” through the body, with the option to stop
and carefully inspect any anatomy that deviates
from expected patterns of normality.
Shaded surface display options enable three
dimensional projection of up to 15 different tissues
or organs, greatly simplifying presentation of
complex anatomical interfaces.
All of these sophisticated display capabilities greatly
expedite swift efficient presentation and accurate
review of the torrent of digital information produced
by our MRI and CT scanners.
REDUNDANT OPTICAL DISC ARCHIVES
The original digital data pertinent to your CT or MRI
examination is always retained, permanently,
for optional retrieval at any time in the
future. This safeguard enables us to regenerate, almost
instantaneously, the original content of any imaging
study previously accomplished at HEALTH SCAN IMAGING.

CD-R MEDIA BURNER
This device enables us to record your entire imaging
examination on a CD.
The recording also includes a digital player,
enabling you to review the results of your examination
at home on your PC, or transfer the results conveniently
to either your family physician or specialist.

DIGITAL COLOR IMAGE PROJECTOR
Our resource center includes a high resolution 2000
Lumen digital image projector.
This device is interfaced with our PACS
system and work station display, enabling us to show life-size images of your
body, projected onto a 6 foot by 8 foot screen
during your post-examination consultation.
LASER FILM RECORDER
If your examination deals with a potential surgical
condition or for any other reason your physician
requests traditional large format transparency
films containing images of your examination, we
can easily accommodate that need.
THERMAL COLOR IMAGE RECORDER
Newer display capabilities are best utilized in conjunction
with color print devices that allow for color-coded
segmentation of anatomical boundaries generated
by the shaded surface display, volume rendering
and virtual endoscopy techniques.
These post-processed digital images are
then printed in high-resolution color onto glossy
sheets of 8 ½ x 11 inch paper that is appended
to the narrative report of your examination results.
LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN)
HEALTH SCAN IMAGING was designed with a highly structured hard-wired computer
network in place. This network includes a variety of ports that integrate all of
our computer systems, including a radiology information
system that allows virtual instantaneous retrieval
and transmittal (autofaxing) of your reports.
WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN)
HEALTH SCAN IMAGING is connected electronically via a high-speed telecommunications
network using SDSL transmission to other affiliated
centers. The
WAN enables our physicians to rapidly review and
interpret images sent to and from our affiliated facilities.
INTRANET/INTERNET
Both our LAN/WAN are interconnected to affiliated sites
through an internet backbone that includes “firewall”
digital encryption to ensure privacy of any individual
patient’s medical information.
